IGT Drying Time Tester
Determines the absorption behaviour and drying time of wet inks
Ideal for print onto paper, carton board, plastics and metal foils, the IGT Drying Time Tester has 8 individual test stations. Each test station consists of a 25mm wide pressure application roller and a corresponding counter roller. Printed samples are placed face upwards, facing a counter reference paper, or the back of a sample of the same paper that has been printed. The samples are run through each test station at a constant speed.
The wet ink film produces a set-off trace, 25mm wide, onto the counter paper. The drying time can then be determined by the density of the set-off trace on the counter paper strip. The speed at which the set-off trace can be run is between 10 – 200 mm/hr.
If the influence of the counter paper strip needs to eliminated, then the set-off transfer can be done against a non-absorbent material such as PVC, cellophane or metal laminated paper. Press sample strips of 40mm width and a length of 500, 700 or 1000mm can also be run.
Evaluation of Test Results
The drying time is determined by measuring the length of the transfer print on the counter paper, to the point where no transfer seen. The length of the counter print divided by the set speed equals the drying time.
A drying time curve can be produced by measuring the density of the print or of the counter print every 10mm long the print.
